St. Joseph’s Parish Newsletter – June 2022 Parish Council
We were informed that the USCCB is embarking on a three-year process of Eucharistic Revival. The process began on the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Corpus Christi Sunday, June 19, 2022.The National Eucharistic Revival is being conducted under the heading: "My Flesh for the Life of the World" with the mission: "To renew the church by enkindling a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist". The three-year process is set to conclude with a National Eucharistic congress scheduled to take place in Indianapolis July 17-21,2024.
The National Eucharist Revival started in the Lubbock Diocese with Corpus Christi Sunday, June 19, 2022. St. Joseph’s celebrated First Communion for both parishes (OLG and St Joseph’s) with Mass at 9:30. A Eucharistic procession, Adoration and Benediction followed Mass. A meal and reception for all First Communicants, their Families and everyone attending Mass was held at the hall and hosted by OLG, the KC’s and Catholic Daughters. CDA provided a gift of religious articles for all First Communicants.
First Friday and First Saturday Devotions are to be kept with the Eucharistic celebration and adoration of the blessed Sacrament.
First Friday and First Saturday devotions are recommended for the next 3 years. .
This year of special devotions will help prepare for the 40th anniversary of the Lubbock Diocese which will be celebrated in June 2023.
The 3-year process of National Eucharistic Revival in our diocese is personally spearheaded by Bishop Coever. The process will conclude with the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, July 17-21, 2024.
The Easter Lilies were provided by donations made in memory of loved ones as suggested by a Parishioner.
There will be no CCE or Adult Education classes during the summer. Adult Ed will resume the end of August
Devin Bednarz requested the Parish return to having a Meal on Sunday of Oktober Fest.
Election of Parish Council will be in the fall of this year. Current members are completing 3 years of service to St Joseph’s as members of the Parish Council. Details to follow.
Next meeting will be Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at 6:45 p.m.
The Parish Activity Committee, under the direction of Deacon Pete, is making plans for Vacation Bible School which will be hosted by St Joseph’s in the School and be sponsored by OLG and St Joseph’s for both parishes and the entire Slaton Community. It will be held July 18-22 for Children, Teens and Adults from 6-8 p.m. The theme is Joseph & the Coat of Many Colors. No registration fee – voluntary donations from families will be accepted. Each evening will start with a meal for everyone. T-shirts will be for sale. On Friday a Potluck & Social with music & talent show will be held. Volunteers needed to: set up & serve food; clean up; Teachers, Aides, Child Care, Facilitators/Presenters for Adults; Entertainment; monetary donations (will be given to Jared Warsing and Michele Houston to be verified by both & deposited by Courtney Stafford in Church Account. A line item for income and expenses will be set up) Angel Hybner oversees T-shirts & Advertising. Sam Hybner is working on Entertainment and Deacon Pete will work with Adult Facilitators/Presenters. CDA and KC’s are each sponsoring a meal and OLG is providing 2 meals. Next meeting is Wednesday, 7/6/22 at 7:00 pm and will include several OLG Volunteers and Deacon Paul.
Knights of Columbus
Sponsoring a Gun Raffle to benefit Harvest Community Org. They will have a booth at Slaton’s July 4th celebration. The drawing will be July 11th. Only 700 tickets are being sold. 4 guns will be raffled.
KC’s partnered with OLG for the First Communion meal, are providing a meal for VBS the week of July 18 and will cook for Bednarz reunion July 30.
Catholic Daughters
In April, donated to Project Celebration for Slaton Seniors & to a CDA member who had emergency surgery; voted to provide a meal for VBS, decided to investigate replacing the aging computer used for projection at masses and at replacing the Priest’s microphone that often is very staticky. Will give gift to St Joseph’s Confirmant and help with the reception at OLG. Sent signed cards to those on Prayer List, Extended & Home Care, President and our Senators and Reps, Fire Dept, Police Dept & EMS & others asking for our prayers.
In May, sponsored the May Crowning, the Baccalaureate Reception for Slaton High Seniors and parents, the Catholic Seniors Reception, the fruit & veggie trays for the Synod meeting after Confirmation with the Bishop at OLG. Sent signed cards to those on Prayer List, Extended & Home Care, President and our Senators and Reps, Fire Dept, Police Dept & EMS & others asking for our prayers.
In June, voted to replace the microphone worn by the Priest for mass, donated to Mercy Center, provided gifts for each First Communicant of both Parishes & granted 3 Scholarships to Seniors pursing higher education – Annie Kelly, Mary Behnke and Terra Drake. Will sponsor a letter writing campaign to encourage Christian voters who’ve been identified as “not likely to vote” to exercise their right to vote in November. More to come on this campaign. JCDA will host Butterfly Kisses Dance at the hall for Fathers and Daughters on July 9, 2022. They also have a monthly Rosary on Zoom and will have an awards ceremony in the future.
Voted to add to Standing Rules any young Catholic woman graduating from high school or college, and all JCDA members, will be invited to join our Court with our Court paying her dues for the first year’s membership.
Received a letter from President Biden encouraging our Court to support Roe vs Wade!
Elected officers for next term 2022-2024. Regent-Karen Hybner; Vice Regent-Kristin Bednarz; Recording Secretary-Gayla Buxkemper; Treasurer-Rebekah Hybner; Financial Secretary-Doris Davis. Installation will be in August as there’s no meeting in July.
Members of the CDA continue to provide provisions for the Coffee & Donuts gathering after every Sunday Mass. Catholic Life has sponsored 2 weekends. Others are urged to volunteer.
Everyone is encouraged to use the Mass cards provided in the back of church or the Parish Office to celebrate occasions and pray for the deceased. $2.50 donation provides a monthly Mass by the Texas State CDA Chaplin for an entire year.
